If I were asked what group of people it is most important to teach about water conservation or other ecological issues it would be the children. By introducing these young minds to these issues and making it part of their every day life it will become natural for them to think of these things when they are older too.
Young minds are very impressionable and a lot of what they learn will stay with them throughout their whole life. The impact of what they learn now will not only help them, it will help generations to come as well.
Sometimes it's hard for children to remember important issues like conserving water. Children see water coming out of the tap whenever they turn it on - so why do we worry when there's always water coming out of the tap?
We can help children remember the issues by making it harder for them to waste water.
Installing low flow shower heads and aerators on taps is a good start, but what is often overlooked is the reduction of total possible flow from the water tap.
The total possible flow of a water tap can be adjusted using the valve that's usually under the sink. Just give it a few turns to close it a little bit and then try the regular tap to make sure that a comfortable amount of water is still available.
By adjusting the water tap under the sink you'll make it harder for any children in your home to waste water by restricting the flow. It's probably going to save you some mopping-up time in the future as well.
