At the Mercy of Mother Nature – A Reason to Go Green

Recently, Haiti was devastated by an act of mother nature. An earthquake measuring 7.3 on the Richter Scale quickly and easily destroyed buildings, roadways and the infrastructure that took Haitians many years to build. Every witness to events like the earthquake in Haiti should think about how powerful mother nature is and how it's in everyone's best interest to try and work with her instead of work against her.

While it can effectively be argued, and probably scientifically supported, that earthquakes are not the product of global warming and not the product of the impact of mankind's existence on the earth; there is no doubt that every creature on the face of the earth is at the mercy of these types of events when they do happen.

When it comes to mother nature the deck of cards is stacked against us, we rely on her for everything to sustain our existence. Our reliance on her means that she's always going to take the win no matter how much collateral damage she causes. So, protecting the earth is in all of our best interest and it's futile to argue any different as the risk in the argument is too great for us to bear.

Water conservation, global warming, species preservation and environmental conservation are all party to the things that will effect earth's chain of existence. Removing one link in the chain will shorten the chain and produce a cumulative effect of any changes that happen after. And, a change in one link after another is removed effects a greater percentage of the chain as a whole.

In reality, there's nothing for earth and climate scientists to compare their studies against when they're doing research about things like global warming.

Of course, scientific studies are a lot more relevant than the flipping of a coin, but since the earth has already existed for billions of years, it's impossible for scientists to do long term studies in a short period of time without relying on a whole lot of guesswork and assumptions.

Knowing that all of us, including scientists, are at such a disadvantage against mother nature, we should know better than to challenge her. We should find it easy and logical to make the right decisions to minimize the environmental impact of our existence. We should be using and looking for ways to create the energy we need without exploiting the unsustainable resources mother nature has provided us with.

If we don't listen to mother nature whispering softly into our ears, she'll surely start to tell us in ways that we can't ignore when she's finally had enough.
