You've probably heard by now that a server at the Climatic Research Unit of the University of East Anglia in Britain was recently hacked. Supposed documents and copies of emails were leaked onto the internet and some of them aren't 100% supportive of believers of climate change.
I've already seen posts on Twitter advising people to SELL SELL SELL any stocks they have in alternative energy companies because of the information contained in the leak and how it will effect companies that have invested in alternative energy R&D. If you've seen the advice and trade stocks, don't sell those stocks just yet.
After taking a quick look around the internet to see if I could locate these documents I came up with nothing, but really it doesn't matter to me. We were able to find a searchable database of the alleged emails located on this website: http://www.eastangliaemails.com/index.php, but still, I find it hard to believe that the emails and documents are 100% in tact as found on the server. Really, the people that released them to John Public broke the law to get them. Changing a few words or numbers around in these documents and emails to support their own initiative probably isn't above them.
In this article I'm going to humor those nasty hackers for a bit - Let's say climate change isn't real.
If climate change isn't real I'm glad that we've recognized, before we've done any major damage to the planet, that our actions have the potential to do irreversible damage to it.
I'm glad that man has invented ways of producing energy that doesn't consume resources and uses naturally occurring forces to produce something that can be utilized by us to make our lives more comfortable and more productive.
For my own peace of mind, I'm thankful that I have a choice in whether or not I'm dependent on a large corporation for some of my energy needs. I don't want to be dependent on a large corporation who dictates the price I will pay for my energy - I'd rather produce my electricity through Solar or Wind. If electric vehicles become a more economical purchase in the future I will happily charge the batteries in my new electric car with the sun or wind.
Future generations, I'm sure, will appreciate that many of us were conscious of the impacts of the choices we made and their effect on nature. Since there undoubtedly exists a green movement, many parts of the world that would have been visually destroyed are being preserved for future generations to enjoy.
More and more people are taking responsibility for their own actions and their own consumption. We are all benefiting from it. Future generations will benefit from those who have made the choices and taken the actions to fight against destruction of our habitat. Do you really need believe in climate change before you join the green movement?
